SIM cards, eSIMs and staying connected

Understand the trade-offs before you choose your travel data setup.

Reliable mobile data makes payment, navigation and translation much easier. The best setup depends on your phone, trip length and which online services you need.

Good to know

Rules, fees and app features can change. Recheck official sources shortly before departure.

01

International roaming

Roaming is often the simplest short-trip option and may route traffic differently from a local connection. Check daily fees and data limits with your carrier.

02

Travel eSIM

An eSIM can be installed before departure and activated on arrival. Confirm that your phone is unlocked and supports eSIM, and keep the installation QR code offline.

03

Local SIM

Local plans can offer strong value for longer stays, but usually require passport registration. Buy from an official carrier counter and ask staff to activate and test it.
